Pipe Dream is the story of a plumber who becomes sick to death of being treated like a second-class citizen. After a failed one night stand with a struggling screenwriter in his building, he strong-arms his life-long casting director friend to run a casting with him as the director so that he can meet beautiful actresses.
The casting needs sides, so he 'borrows' them from the screenwriter and when the film becomes the talk of the town, the plumber-turned-director enlists the help of the screenwriter, whose film now cannot be made without his fabricated 'Obscure European art film director' reputation. It's an interesting twist on the Cyrano de Bergerac story.
In this scene, the screenwriter (normally providing dialogue for the plumber-director through headphones) has run out to stop her car being towed, leaving the plumber-director to 'fend for himself', so to speak. This is the result.....

The joke here is that the generalized directions of a plumber are somehow hitting the mark more than the educated, experienced directions of the woman who actually wrote the script. But how many times have you heard directions like this? Have a listen to the directions and imagine what you would do with them.
